Who Are the Sharks?
The Martha's Vineyard Sharks have played at historic Vineyard Baseball Park, located on the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School campus in Oak Bluffs, since 2010 and are one of 13 current members of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), one of the top leagues of its kind in the country.
The Sharks joined the NECBL in 2019 after competing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) from 2010-18, capturing FCBL championships in 2013 and sharing the title in 2018. In the NECBL, the Sharks posted the league's best regular-season record in their inaugural 2019 campaign and went on to win the Fay Vincent Cup championship in 2022 with a perfect 5-0 postseason mark.
While baseball’s stars of tomorrow are showcased on the field, Sharks games include fun for fans of all ages. The popular “kids run the bases” in the middle innings is just one of many between-innings contests and promotions fans can enjoy during each and every game.
The Sharks are actively involved in the Martha's Vineyard community (see Sports Illustrated story here), supporting non-profit and youth organizations. Every home game features various group outings including little leagues, schools, camps, and many more. More than 20,000 fans have visited The Shark Tank (Vineyard Baseball Park) every summer since 2010, making the Sharks a staple family-friendly attraction for Martha's Vineyard, greater Massachusetts, and surrounding communities, boasting the NECBL's highest average attendance of 2,759 per game in 2025 and breaking single-game records like 3,567 fans in one thrilling matchup.
Like all NECBL teams, the Sharks roster is made up of college student-athletes from all levels, hailing from all over the country. Many players each summer are local to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and New England in general, but the team and NECBL consistently welcome players from virtually every major Division 1 conference.
More than 50 players have been drafted or signed by professional teams during or after their time with the Sharks, with alumni like Mason Hickman (drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 2020 after his 2017 Sharks stint) advancing their careers in professional baseball.
