 Rochester, NH July 24, 2012

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks completed a home and away sweep of the Seacoast Mavericks Tuesday night in Rochester, NH.Apolinar De La Cruz (freshman, Wheaton College) went 2-4 with an RBI, helped the Sharks (21-15) to a 4-1 victory over the Mavericks (19-19) on Tuesday at Bert George. Besides De La Cruz, Nick Sanford (sophomore, UMASS) had a solid game knocking in a pair of RBIs as he too went 2-4.

Joey Arena (sophomore, C.W. Post) struck out seven, paving the way for a Sharks win. Arena allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk over seven innings.  Arena was strong throughout the night, never finding him in trouble. He had excellent command of his repertoire of pitches and credited his catcher, Pat Quinn, (sophomore, University of Rhode Island) with calling a solid game. Arenas stated that “my fastball, change-up and slider were all working allowing me to setup batters throughout the game.” The team played solidly behind Arenas, which he stated “always makes it easier to pitch.”

Kyle Brenner (freshman, Brandeis University) and Ryan Morris (junior, Presbyterian University)pitched the last two inning not allowing a run, with Morris picking up a save.

Tad Gold (sophomore, Endicott College) who is batting .304, picked up his league-leading 22 stolen base and knocked in a run.

Next game is Saturday against the Old Orchard Beach followed by a special Sunday noon start against the Brockton Rox, which also happens to be free hot dog lunch!
