Martha's Vineyard Sharks: About Us

WHO ARE THE SHARKS?

The team is a composition of the best players that come from the top collegiate baseball programs in the country. Most of the players are looking to improve their skillset for their next college baseball season, while the few are waiting to be discovered by a scout from Major League Baseball.

If you want to bond, show your kids how a crisp game of baseball is played, see positive work habits, gain insight into how to balance baseball with academics and see tomorrow’s stars, then the Shark Tank is the place to be during the summer!

Coming to a Sharks game is all about fun for the family...baseball and in-between innings entertainment!

CAMPS & PERSONAL SKILL SESSIONS

The Sharks run summer camps and personal skill sessions starting the last week of June and the first week of the baseball season in June, respectively. These sessions are a great way for your child to improve their hitting, fielding, throwing and understanding the game of baseball from young adults (Sharks players) who live and breathe baseball.

The Sharks will play a 56 regular-season schedule in 2014 running from early June through mid-August. Opening Day will be Wednesday, June 4th. All games start at time of 7:00 PM.

GAME COVERAGE

The MV Times and the Vineyard Gazette newspapers will carry coverage of the Sharks in their weekly editions recapping the prior week's games.

Every game is broadcast by Martha's Vineyard Public Broadcasting employing both video (5 different camera angles in High Definition during the 2014 baseball season) and audio over the Internet using EZStream software (small subscription fee of $50) by selecting a link on the Home page of the Sharks website during the season.

Of course you can always go to the Sharks website and follow the online scoreboard during each league game.  You can read the daily sports beat on our blog, which will be prepared by a combination of MVRHS students and college interns that provides a recap of the previous game. This is a great way to get to know the players even if you are not at the game as long as you have access through your smartphone, tablet or iPad.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Sharks play a very active role in the community, as we are involved with numerous local non-profit organizations and other community groups. The team has developed a solid set of community relationships with the local groups on the Vineyard, but also with the folks who spend their summer vacations here. Some of the community groups that annually visit the Shark Tank are:

1.   MV Little League

2.   MV Babe Ruth League (also play at the Shark Tank)

3.   Camp Jabberwocky

4.   YMCA summer campers

5.   MV Boys and Girls Club summer campers

6.   Hospice of Martha's Vineyard

7.   Martha's Vineyard Cancer Society

8.   Big Brothers and Big Sisters

Please call us @ (508) 687-9705 if you would like your group to participate at the Shark Tank.

CHRIS CARMINUCCI

The concept of putting a team on the Vineyard was that of Chris Carminucci (who was the CEO of CSG at the time of formation). He developed a business plan, then executed his vision of bringing a hometown team to the Vineyard, something never done before. The development and execution of the business plan fell into the hands of Jerry Murphy (General Manager & CFO) and Bob Tankard (Vice President of Baseball Operations), both operating officers and minority owners of the team.
