Jerry Murphy – General Manager, CFO & Owner
Jerry joined the Carminucci Sports Group in November 2010 as the first ever General Manager & CFO of the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, playing their inaugural season in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Jerry’s background is in business.
He was a senior vice president and division head responsible for operations, financial control, the bank’s Internet-based cash management system, operations, information technology and risk management for a European bank operating a $25 billion branch in New York City for 22 years. During his banking days he had been the controller responsible for financial control, taxation and human resources, head of risk management, head of the information technology and head of operations before being collectively responsible for all aforementioned areas. After leaving banking at the end of 2002 Jerry became a founder and the CEO for a software company from 2003 through 2008. He then participated as a founder and CFO for a renewable energy project in New Hampshire from 2008 through the summer of 2010.
Jerry and his family have been coming to the Vineyard since the early 1990s before buying a summer home in 1999. Jerry and his family moved from NY to the Vineyard in June of 2007. Jerry’s passion is baseball and still enjoys playing 3B playing softball and pitching hardball for a 35 years and older team on the Vineyard from March through October.
Jerry will represent the Sharks at all Futures Collegiate Baseball League meetings.
Dr. Robert Tankard - VP Baseball Operations & Owner
Hailing from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, Dr. Tankard has spent the past thirty-four years of his life as a strong advocate for people, attempting to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged and disadvantaged. As an educator and administrator, Dr. Tankard has developed many programs that have improved the quality of education for both his students and educators that have worked under his guidance. Dr. Tankard has directed several television programs pertaining to community issues as well as programs designed to give high school and college students a voice or forum to discuss issues that affect them.
Dr. Tankard obtained his Doctoral Degree from the Fielding Graduate University, a Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Tankard served on the Board of the Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara CA, serves as a Trustee of the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank located on Martha’s Vineyard, Tisbury School Committee and the Cape Cod Collaborative. Dr. Tankard is the Founder and current President of Upward Bound Youth Development, Inc, a youth camp based in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Dr. Tankard also has an extensive background in coaching and athletics.
